Time and time again I hear from the community of moms participating in my detoxes and one-on-one consulting how difficult it is to get healthy snacks in their kids.
It’s hard because we’re busy. We’re trying to do everything right. And when it comes to shopping, despite our best efforts, we end up relying on easy and, often, bad habits.
And, I get it, sometimes it’s just simpler to let our children have what they have already asked for 3 times then to continue the exhausting debate!
As a mom of four, I know all too well how easy it is to get worn down.
I also know that having a strategy is one of the most important things I can do to help me get through the day.
We seem to always have strategies for other things in our lives: we have carpools, morning routines, an order to the way things have to get done. Often overlooked is the fact that having a strategy when it comes to food is not only a great asset, but also an imperative if you want to feed yourself and your family a health sustaining and enjoyable diet.
I have designed my own snack strategy and have decided to share it with all of you. Start by swapping out some of the kids “unfriendly” favorites for some of my healthier versions. Over time you will see that you will have more wins than losses when it comes to healthy snacks.
Some of my favorite swaps are:
WORST
Doritos, Goldfish, CapriSun
BETTER
Late July chips, 365 Quack’n bites,
Freshly squeezed juice
BEST
Peppers & guac, Carrots & hummus,
Organic Fruit
Get your hands on a COMPLETE list I’ve compiled of snack swaps including some of my favorite stand-ins that my kids actually like BETTER than the junky originals.
Good luck and enjoy!
